snom Releases snom ONE plus Hardware Appliance for SMBs

Takeaway: snom gives customers flexibility and choice, offering its recently introduced snom ONE IP PBX in a software-only version or in the convenience of a hardware-based appliance called snom ONE “plus.” The IP-only software version was introduced last December, and now, a hardware-based version adds flexibility for businesses that want both IP and PSTN support. snom ONE plus is a solid state appliance available in two versions, each of which has the same snom ONE features: snom ONE plus yellow (up to 20 extensions) and snom ONE plus blue (up to 150 extensions). The appliance supports SIP trunking or PSTN connectivity via analog, PRI, BRI, T1 and E1 interface cards for flexibility in configuration and connectivity in regions with differing trunking requirements. snom one plussnom technologies of Germany entered the IP PBX market in October 2010, launching a software-based telephony system called snom ONE for smaller businesses (targets 4-150 users) in response feedback that many smaller companies prefer to purchase a PBX and phone package from one vendor.  snom has long been known for its portfolio of SIP telephones and devices that are compatible with other manufacturer’s SIP-based solutions, but now, snom offers its own IP-PBX with full support for the snom SIP telephone feature set. The software is free for under 10 users and only $1,495 for 150 users), and unlike other software-based PBX solutions, the snom ONE software runs on multiple operating systems - all versions are available for Windows, Linux or Mac operating systems.

The new hardware-based snom ONE “plus” (pictured) offers a convenient alternative in the form of a solid state appliance that is stable and durable with no moving parts. The rack- or wall-mount unit is pre-installed and configured with snom ONE IP PBX software. The snom phones are pre-configured for auto registration and provisioning upon installation. snom’s SIP telephone portfolio includes the snom 300 series, snom 800 series, snom m9 DECT phones, and snom MeetingPoint conference phone. snom phones are required for the free software-only version, but other versions (snom ONE yellow and snom ONE blue) support SIP-based devices from other vendors, though these not auto configured and the number of third party devices is limited to five on snom ONE yellow and 40 on snom ONE blue.

The snom ONE plus appliance is available in two versions, each of which has the same snom ONE features: snom ONE plus yellow (up to 20 extensions) and snom ONE plus blue (up to 150 extensions). The appliance supports SIP trunking or PSTN connectivity via analog, PRI, BRI, T1 and E1 interface cards (from Sangoma) for flexibility in configuration and connectivity in regions with differing trunking requirements. Trunk types include analog (4-, 8-, 12- or16-port FXO), ISDN BRI (4-, 8- or 12-channel), ISDN PRI/T1/E1/J1 (up to 30 channels) or a combination card supports T1/E1/J1 (up to 30 channels), a 4-port FXO and 1-port FXS interface. Both the yellow and blue appliances have the same port architecture and can house any of the above cards.

The system enables typical PBX features, as well as more advanced functionality. Notable features include a centralized address book, hot desking, CRM integration, cell phone twinning, presence and monitoring features.   A voicemail and auto attendant capability is standard, or the customer can add the Microsoft Exchange for unified messaging as an option.

Availability/Compatibility: snom ONE plus is available as of March 2011 in North America and in the European/international market through snom's distributors and value added resellers, a three-year hardware warranty is included. Pricing varies and depends on the configuration, starting at $2,131 MSRP for snom ONE yellow or $3,921 MSRP for a snom ONE blue package with 34-port ISDN, four FXO and one FXS interface. www.snom.com
